Andalucía - le paradis des motards

At the beginning of April we set off on The Best of Andalusia, a tour devoted to one of the most spectacular motorcycling regions in Europe. Andalusia is a true paradise for riders: impeccably kept mountain roads, little traffic, white villages hung on rock and, a few hours from one another, a real desert, the highest paved road in Europe and the Atlantic coast. The route brings together the finest roads, landscapes and points of interest of southern Spain. April is the right month: the mountains have thawed, the fields are still green, and the summer heat has not arrived. The profile is mountain roads — bends, altitude and pueblos blancos: few kilometres, high density.

    What we see in Andalusia.

The landmarks the tour is built around, from the mountains to the coast.

    Landmarks

    01 — 12
    • 01
      Ronda

The town cut in two by the El Tajo gorge, with the Puente Nuevo thrown across a hundred-metre drop. The roads leading to it are as good as the town.

    • 02
      Sierra de Grazalema

The rainiest corner of Spain and, as a result, the greenest. Tight switchbacks between limestone walls, vultures overhead.

    • 03
      Pueblos blancos

Zahara de la Sierra, Setenil de las Bodegas — a village built under a huge rock — and Vejer de la Frontera. White villages on the ridge, at the end of every valley.

    • 04
      Sierra Nevada

The road to Pico Veleta, the highest asphalt in Europe, at over 3,300 metres. Snow and a view to Africa on the same day.

    • 05
      Las Alpujarras

The southern slope of the Sierra Nevada: Capileira, Trevélez and a road that climbs and drops without a single straight, through villages of Berber origin.

    • 06
      Granada · AlhambraUNESCO

Spain's most visited monument and the reference point of Nasrid architecture — palaces, water courtyards and the Generalife, with the Sierra Nevada behind.

    • 07
      Córdoba · MezquitaUNESCO

The forest of eight hundred red-and-white columns and arches, with a Renaissance cathedral grown in the middle of a mosque.

    • 08
      Sevilla

The Mudéjar Alcázar, the Giralda and the largest Gothic cathedral in the world. April evenings in the Santa Cruz quarter.

    • 09
      The Tabernas desert

The only true desert in continental Europe. Leone's westerns were shot here — the sets are still standing.

    • 10
      Cabo de Gata

Volcanic coast, bays without buildings and the driest point in Europe. The road above the cliffs, early in the morning.

    • 11
      El Torcal de Antequera

A limestone plateau eroded into impossible shapes, at 1,200 metres. A landscape like nothing else in Spain.

    • 12
Costa de la Luz and the Strait

Tarifa and the Atlantic coast, with Morocco visible across fourteen kilometres of water. Permanent wind, endless beaches.

The order and the final selection are confirmed when the full route is published and at the tour briefing.
