Motonest — Privacy Policy

Motonest ("the app", "we", "us") is a community app for motorcycle riders that helps you discover and share rider-friendly places ("nests"). This policy explains what data we collect, why, and your rights over it. It is written to comply with the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

We do not collect contacts, advertising identifiers, or background location. We do not sell your data. We do not use third-party advertising SDKs. The website's analytics are described below.
Data about the places listed on the map
The map lists places: accommodation, repair shops, restaurants, fuel. For each one we hold the name, the address, the coordinates, the category and, where they are public, the business contact details — phone, website, email address. These are business details; where an address identifies a person (firstname.lastname@…), it is personal data and this section applies to it.
This information does not come from the business itself. It comes from submissions sent in by riders, from the 2020 Motonest legacy list, from OpenStreetMap, Overture Maps, Foursquare open data and DATAtourisme (open data from French tourist boards).
We process it to keep the map accurate and to let a rider find and contact a place. The legal basis is legitimate interest (GDPR Art. 6(1)(f)): keeping a free map correct, and giving a business the chance to correct what is published about it. This data is never sold and never used for advertising targeting.
We sometimes write or call a business to check what the app shows about it. Every message offers two separate things, which you can ask for independently: removing the listing from the map, and never being contacted by Motonest again. A removal request is recorded so the listing does not come back through a later import; a no-contact request leaves the listing online.
The listing is kept for as long as it appears on the map. Removal and no-contact requests are kept indefinitely, precisely so that they are honoured. Notes taken during a call or an exchange are kept for three years.
You can ask for access to this data, for it to be corrected or erased, or object to it being processed, by writing to contact@motonest.com. You can also complain to your data protection authority (in France: the CNIL; in Romania: ANSPDCP).
Where your data is stored
Your account data, submissions and photos are stored on our own server infrastructure at api.motonest.com, within the EU.
Analytics
If you agree, we use Google Analytics to count visits and see which pages are read. The tag starts with every consent signal denied and only sets cookies after you accept, so declining leaves nothing on your device. Google acts as our processor and may process data outside the EU under its standard contractual clauses. You can change your mind by clearing this site's data in your browser.
Third parties
Map tiles are served by the OpenStreetMap Foundation's tile servers (tile.openstreetmap.org). When the app loads the map, your IP address is visible to that tile provider, as with any web request. No account data is sent to them. We do not share your personal data with any other third party, except where required by law.
How long we keep it
- Account data: for as long as your account exists.
- Submissions and photos: remain part of the community map unless you delete them or ask us to.
- If you delete your account, we delete your personal account data. Public submissions may be retained in anonymized form to preserve the community map.
Your rights (GDPR)
You have the right to access, correct, export, or delete your personal data, and to withdraw consent at any time. Location and photo permissions can be revoked in your device settings at any time. To exercise any right, email contact@motonest.com and we will respond within 30 days. You may also lodge a complaint with your national data protection authority (in Romania: ANSPDCP).
Children
Motonest is not directed at children under 16 and we do not knowingly collect their data.
Changes
We may update this policy. Material changes will be announced in the app or by updating the "Last updated" date above.
